The point is that there is no "right direction". You either enjoy it or don't. No one can make you. There are enthusiasts who just like to play survival, some who just play creative, some who want to keep things realistic, some want fantastic. There are mods to change the gameplay. It's just one of those things you figure out on your own. Try out single player, and see if you know anyone running a MP server.
